BOTANIC CAPE

It is said that on Table Mountain alone there are more plant species than on all of the British Isles. The Cape Floral Kingdom is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with around 20% of the plant species found in Africa.

The Cape Floral Kingdom is also listed as a 'Biodiversity Hotspot' by Conservation International that has the following to say:
"... Home to the greatest non-tropical concentration of higher plant species in the world, the region is the only hotspot that encompasses an entire floral kingdom, and holds five of South Africa´s 12 endemic plant families and 160 endemic genera."

Within one hours drive from Villa10, you can visit and experience three different Botanical Gardens, each of which situated in a unique area and worth a visit. More information on these gardens can be found here:
Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden
Karoo Desert Botanical Garden
Harold Porter Botanical Garden

You can also enjoy natural or other public gardens such as the:
"Kompanjie Tuin" in Cape Town
Durbanville Nature Reserve
Gardens at Leeuwenhof
Durbanville Rose Garden
and various others.

Alternatively take a stroll on Table Mountain and experience Cape Fynbos in its natural surroundings.

One of our favourite times in the Cape is wildflower season. Normally at its best during the months of August and September.

As the name indicate, they are wildflowers and appear anywhere along the way. Obviously some are location bound, but you need not travel far to enjoy the splendour of creation.
